Recycling Centers
Dahlonega and the Lumpkin County area received a grant last year to introduce recycling of plastics (1 & 2), cans, paper that tears and cardboard. This not only saves on trash hauling but is also very good for the environment.

Recycling stations are located near the high school and Home Depot.

On occasion, electronics, computers and televisions can be recycled at the main recycling center.

We are hoping that glass will be recycled locally in the future.

For more information visit Lumpkin County Recycling.

Lumpkin Coalition

The Lumpkin Coalition is a community grass roots organization focused on issues related to the environment and protecting the natural resources. It has taken a lead roll in saving the ancient hemlock trees that are dying across the Appalachians due to the Woolly Adelgid. It is also assisting the Stop Interstate 3 effort to bring a major highway from Savannah to Oak Ridge, Tn that would devastate this mountain area and provide a travel route for nuclear material.

For information visit Lumpkin Coalition.

Eco Friendly Home Products

For information on solar power systems, composting toilets and composters visit Housing .

Other Green Programs

Residents in the area served by Amicalola Electric Cooperative can sign up for green power which uses biomass/methane from landfills to provide earth friendly electricity. For information visit Amicalola Green Power.

Biodiesel Fuel

Interesting technology that allows you to take waste vegetable oil from a restaurant and use it in your diesel car, truck or home heating oil furnace. To use in cars you apparently do not need to purchase a separate tank to hold the fuel or special filters. Click banner for more information.
